Are you allowed to show your bitch while she is in heat?
That was the question that was running through my head as my next 6-9 mo. old puppy class was fast approaching.
Well the answer is YES! Confirmation classes are judged on the potential for a dog to be bred.. so being in heat is allowed. Performance events (agility, obedience, etc.) it is not allowed.
Also, be sure to tell your judge as they’re feeling their structure with their hands and will reach under for a surprise. Always remember to address them as Sir/Mam, and politely let them know your girl is in heat.
I stayed clear of the rings thinking all the Dogs (that’s what males are referred to) would get a whiff of her and go crazy, but nope, LOTS of dogs passed her and not one did one thing. No one cared. No one said anything about her being in heat, there was actually another adult lab in heat that we hung out with. So moral of the story, continue to have fun, continue to make friends at the shows, and introduce yourself to people! My mindset is I’ll probably see you at the next show, so let’s be friends and say hi to each other. We have the same breed and we’re here for the same reason 🙂
As a PS do you wanna know how swollen the vulva gets? Large!
