Labrador Mismarks

Mismarks Not Allowed

Mismarks occur naturally in Labradors and often time come up generations later when you get the two recessive alleles together. They cannot be shown in conformation classes (breeding potential) due to the strict breed standard, but they can be shown in performance events such as obedience, agility, dock diving, etc.

Brindling often extends up the legs, on the face, and on the hind quarters. This is a disqualification in the conformation ring per the AKC Standard.

Tan points on the muzzle, eyebrows, ears, or chest are not allowed per the AKC Standard.

Large patches of alternate colors – think and black and white dairy cow – is not allowed per the AKC standard.
